What Raksha Bandhan rituals have we forgotten in the modern Rakhi celebration?
The auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan is nothing new in the Indian culture. Many Mythological stories are there in our Indian culture, proving Raksha Bandhan’s existence from ancient times. In the earlier days, there were traditions formulated by the ancestors. But, with the change in time and advancement in technology, many rituals are there that we do not observe in this modern era.
We have this list having some of such Raksha Bandhan rituals that have been vanished with time:
Janaeu wearing tradition
In the earlier days, Brahmin boys used to wear Janaeu, and on Raksha Bandhan, they have to discard the old Janaeu and wear a new one. But, nowadays, only a few Brahmin boys wear Janaeu. So, this tradition is also fading away with time.
Entrance decoration tradition
Back in the days, palm imprints were drawn on the house entrance with rice paste. The palm imprints are considered auspicious and can ward off the evil energies from the house. But, nowadays, either people do not follow this tradition or stick handcrafted door hangings on the entrance only for decoration purposes.
Lumba tying tradition
Earlier, it is believed that Lumba Rakhi is considered very important for family unity, and hence, sisters tie Rakhi to their brothers and sisters-in-law. But, nowadays, tying Rakhi on the Bhabhi’s hand has merely become a fashion.
